Paul Sauvageau

Dr. Paul P. Sauvageau, Ph.D, 59, of Salem, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 21, 2011 while scuba diving off of North Carolina.

Born in Salem, March 17, 1952, Paul was the son of Lauriette (Belanger) and the late Raymond Sauvageau. Paul was a graduate of Saltonstall Grammar School, and Salem High School, Class of 1971. He received a BS in Marine Biology at Suffolk University and received a Master's of International Relations from Troy University. Following that, Paul earned a Doctorate from Boston University in Curriculum Development. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Paul served his country from 1978 to 1982 honorably discharged as a Sergeant.

Paul worked for a time at Salem Hospital and the VA Hospital in Bedford. He was a substitute teacher in the Lynn School Department and primarily worked as a private consultant for school curriculum development.

A scuba diver for over 40 years, Paul was a proud member of the North Shore Frogmen's Club. He was a two time past president and served as the club's historian and underwater photographer.

Along with his mother, Lauriette (Belanger) Sauvageau of Salem, Paul is survived by his two brothers, Albert Sauvageau and his wife Rita of Mount Dora, Fla., and Marc Sauvageau and his wife Connie of Phoenix; three nieces, Lorna of Wenham, Donna of Richmond, Va., and Nicole of Phoenix; three grandnephews, and two grandnieces, and many cousins and friends.
