Presidents Message October 2014
Greetings Frogs,
I hope everyone has been having a great diving
season!
We will be having an Underwater Pumpkin Carving
Contest at Stage Fort Park on Sat. Oct 18th at 10am.
Jennifer Entwistle has been gracious enough to offer
to run the event for the club. Please bring your own
medium sized unmarked, uncarved pumpkin to the
event. Stencils are allowed. Bring markers, catch
bags and a pumpkin carving kit to the event. There
will be a cook out after the carving.
Halloween is a hectic time for Salem. We are going
to have a Wing Night on Thursday Oct. 30th at
Buffalo Wild Wings, 100 Independence Way (Liberty
Tree Mall), at 7:30pm instead of a club meeting.
Mary has offered to run the Photo Contest this year.
Contest rules to follow so please take a moment to
review your pictures from this year and get them
printed. The deadline to enter photos will be on
Thursday Nov 20th. We love you Mary!
Officer nominations will begin on Nov 6th. Ask not
what the Frogmen can do for you but what you can do
for the Frogmen! It has been an honor to be president
of the club for the past two years! My busy lifestyle
will not allow me to serve as an officer for next year.
I know that there are several members that would be
great officers. I hope that you will volunteer your
services for this awesome club.
December 4th we will hold our Elections and Photo
Contest.
December 18th we will have our pizza party and
Yankee Swap gathering. The location is to be
determined.
Please note that we are having our banquet after the
holidays on Sat. Jan. 24th at 7pm at the Italian Club in
Beverly. Every year members have had conflicting
events during the holidays. By having the banquet
after the holidays, more members can attend and
relax.
I would like to nominate Bill Werner as Member of
the Month for all his help with the Treasure Hunt
Cookout, and Markus Diersbock as Diver of the
Month for his work on trademarking the club name.
Thanks for your efforts!
Happy Diving!

- Jim found a “gold” chain at OGB.
Must have been dropped recently as
there was no growth. He forgot to
wear it to the meeting.
- Jim and Adam went to Canoe Beach
in Nahant. 50°F at depth. Jim stirred
up an egger who hit Adam in the
head. Saw baby grubbies in the
shallows.
- Graham went with John, Jeff and
Jack to Lanes. John got only one
lobster. Getting in was ok but needed
to use hands and knees to get out. 49F
at depth.
- This weekend: Dive Locker will be
doing a helmet dive starting around
10 on Sunday.
General Discussion:
- Ellen asked who to speak with about
resorts in Lembeh. Mike Walsh
(MWDC) and Adam have been.
Raffles: Dollars Box: Ray Porter
18-Sep-2014
Abbreviated Meeting for Presentation
Meeting called to order: 7:44PM
Attendance: 2 Officers, 20 Members, 2
Guests
Correspondence:
- Pat and Annette requested a list of
attendees for the VT week
camping/diving event.
Committees:
- Program: See website and 9/11 notes
for details
- There is an issue with the Picnic
Permit for Stage Fort Park. City of
Gloucester has given us a permit to
use Plum Cove instead. The BSC
Treasure Hunt event will begin about
an hour after the previously
scheduled time as tide is not high
until 2:25PM, and the cove has little
water at low tide.
New Business:
- Cashes Ledge petition is available for
signing. Don’t sign it if you’ve
already done so at Sea Rovers.
- Memberhsip approved spending $300
for ICC for banquet, with
understanding that we’d also likely
pay $75 additional bar fee.
- Membership approved spending up
to $350 for Sea Rovers booth; it should
be closer to $285 which is what it was
last year.
Dive Talk:
- Bill, Graham, Ralph and Gary met,
but it was blowing hard and they
decided to cancel.
- Amy also aborted her dive.
General Discussion:
- Several people went on the whale
watch Saturday. Sadly we turned
around before getting to the site due
to rough seas and wind, but everyone
got a rain check that’s good
indefinitely. It was pointed out that
they might not honor it for a group
and someone should congtact them to
ensure we can go as a group again;
Adam said he would do that.
- When diving OGB, where’s the best
place to go? Per John, head straight
out about 80’, head to left. Pinacle is
another choice.
- Dive Locker: Jack dove with the
MarkV on Saturday. Hoist broke so
no diving Sunday.
Raffles: Dollars Box: Jeff Lynch
Mystery Prize: Jeff Lynch
Bug Bag: Ongoing
After the business meeting, we
had an excellent presentation by
Ethan Gordon on photography
techniques he used on the wrecks
in Truk Lagoon.
