Presidents’ Message - August 2013

Happy Summer Froggies!

I hope everyone's enjoying the hot weather and the warmer water.

I would like to name Michael Lodise member of the month for his presentation on proper camera cleaning and maintenance.

I want to thank Ken Flagg for organizing the July Eastport trip and name him diver of the month. We had a nice time diving in Eastport and Deer Island. Ken and his wife Kristin, planned a nice trip and cooked up three delicious meals a day on the camp site. I didn't realize we would have so much interest in Eastport trips from the club members. There was a possible second trip to Eastport being put together by the Finatics Club but they are changing it to a St. Lawrence trip instead. Now that I know enough people are interested in Eastport trips, I will try to offer more trips next year.

Jennifer Entwistle and I took a trip on the Easy Diver. We had a nice time diving Thatcher Island and the Mouth of Loblolly Cove. Fred and Chris Calhoun were fun to hang out with on the boat and they accepted our dive equipment for the most part. They recommended that I wouldn't need to bring my pony bottle since we were diving shallow sites. Jen got some nice lobsters. There was some discussion on the regulations of the lobsters. If anyone has any questions I’ve attached a link to the Mass. lobster license regulations. http://mafishinglicense.com/recreational- lobster-license/

Don't forget that the Vermont trip is August 4-11th at Pat and Annette's house. Please contact Vinny if you plan to attend and haven't done so already. Jim D'Urso is hosting a pool party at his house on Sat Aug 17th with a rain date of Sun Aug 18th. We could potentially plan for an early morning shore dive or a charter boat dive prior to the party.

We are working on organizing some dives to Norman's Woe, Nubble Light, and some Squid Safari night dives. Stay tuned and Happy Diving!

-Laura G
