Presidents’ Message - March 2013
Hello Fellow Froggies!
It's been a great winter so far. March is here and we have some fun stuff planned this month. The Boston Sea Rovers is March 9th & 10th! I would like to thank everyone that is helping out with the booth display. It was really great that Vinny was able to obtain a free display for us! I hope to see everyone there to support the club at the show.
Mary and Ray are hosting a St. Patrick's Party for the Froggies at their house on Sat. March 16th! Start time 5PM. (See more info on page 3)
If the weather allows, we will have a
Susan Copelas will be giving a presentation on diving in the Philippines on March 7th! I will be giving a brief presentation on March 21st on the many species of nudibranchs to be found on the Gloucester Breakwall.
Sunday April 24th, we will be joining the Finatics to dive the Breakwall for a Nudibranch Safari.
I would like to name Mary Howard as Diver of the Month and Ray Porter as member of the month! Mary & Ray have been so gracious to host a St. Patrick's Party event at their house for the Froggies. I would like to thank Mary for all of the time and work that she put in to publish our Air Bubbles newsletter. I would like to thank Ray for all the work he has been doing on updating our bylaws. Thanks for all your contributions to the club!
I look forward to seeing you all at the Sea Rovers show and hope you will join me for some nudibranch diving! March and April are great months for nudibranchs. I love nudis!

-Members are asked to sign up to man the booth at Boston Scuba Show and Sea Rovers, and to lead club dives for a month at a time
-Air Bubbles: went out electronically on 1/29.
Dive Talk:
-Gary & Jim went to Winter Island. It was COLD! 27˚F at the surface. Saw an anemone; not much else.
-Arnie & Jack went to a pool to check out new equipment (overhauled regs)
-Dive this weekend: BK at 8:45. Al and Jim may go.
General Discussion:
-Reminder: meeting starts at 7:30 next week; business meetings w/wo presentations will be on 1st and 3rd Thursdays. There will be social gatherings on the alternate weeks.
-From Undercurrent a couple of months ago:
-POTENTIAL DANGER with AQUA LUNG WEIGHT POCKETS. AquaLung is conducting a voluntary
recall of SureLockII weight pocket handles, which it has put into most of its BCDs ince 2009, concerned that the rubber handle can pull of the plastic weight pocket, leaving weight pocket attached to BCD. Anyone using SureLockII weight pockets, no matter what year, should bring them to the nearest AquaLung retailer, which can be quickly replaced under warranty while you wait. Or call

Bay State Council Meeting
The next Bay State Council of Divers meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 7:30PM at the SSN’s clubhouse located at the corner of Quarry Street and Joyce Road in Quincy.

Upcoming Events…..
“The Philippines” by Susan Copelas
Susan Copelas will be presenting her exploratory trip to the Philippines where she spent two months searching for the best dive spots for a group trip she is organizing for next February. Susan’s presentation will include photos and stories of all the awesome critters she encountered during her 85 dives (like whale sharks and thresher sharks!) as well as experiences with the local tribes and various people I met along the way.
The presentation will be after the business portion of the meeting of North Shore Frogmen at PCYC in Salem, MA.

Salem Sound Coastwatch Launches New
Lecture Series
"Underwater in Salem Sound"
The series, cosponsored by Marblehead's Abbot Public Library, will be held at 7 pm at the library on the last Wednesday of each month, January through April. Save these dates:
Wednesday, March 27 - "Salt Marshes Under Seige" - Presented by Dr. Robert Buchsbaum, Mass Audubon Conservation Scientist
Wednesday, April 24 - "Making a Living On and In the Water"

The Bay State Council of Divers
Supporting and promoting the recreational diving community in Massachusetts.
The Bay State Council of Divers (BSC) is a diver’s advocacy group. The BSC monitors local, state and federal regulations that may affect the recreational diving community in Massachusetts. When required, the BSC represents the interests of the diving community in these matters.
The BSC serves as a liaison between dive clubs and dive stores to promote recreational diving activity in Massachusetts. All divers are encouraged to support the BSC with an annual contribution of $5. Your contribution will allow the BSC to continue to be a strong advocate for the recreational diving community in Massachusetts.
