Mike Tyson reports on the parking situation

We received this from Mike Tyson

Hey I am trying to work with a state rep and see if there is anything that can be done, about all of these resident parking signs that are sprouting up every place that we dive at.

After all most of these dive areas are public beaches that are funded by our taxes. So we should be able to utilise these beaches just like everyone else.

Diving on public land, with signs stating resident parking only.

Member Mike Tyson writes to us:

"As all of you are aware, while diving in the Cape Ann area. There are more and more of our diving spots that seem to be sprouting signs that say resident parking only. Most of these spots are state funded by our taxes, and are supposed to be maintained by state employees, or the local dpw crews. These crews are paid by the state with funds that are supported by our taxes.

I don't think that these residents and towns should be able to post these signs. Now if these spots were locally funded and maintained that would be a different story. So I amin the process of getting ahold of my local state reps. To see if there is anything we can do, about this small but inconvenient problem.

If we divers' were destroying these areas, I could see why the resedents near these local beaches would have alot in their favor. What I've seen is that most divers at least in the Froggies try to be very respectful of the local residents and the beaches that we use to dive at.

I think that if more divers were to voice their opinions to their local rep, we could all come a reasonable conclusion for both diver and the local resident. These local reps are our reps, just as much as the residents that live near these beaches.

Please forward your opinions for the rest of us to read."

Comments:

Many of the signs you see ARE NOT SIGNED by anyone, such as "Per Order of Rockport P.D." etc.. They are very well-done but totally bogus-forgeries of legitimate signs. Some signs are legitimate but have no code indicating who authorized it. But for the most part any signs restricting access can easily be traced back to the issuing authority-if there ever was one to begin with. Don't believe everything you see. But be careful anyway.

WORLD DIVE MAP - Please add your pushpins!

C'mon Froggies. It looks like I'm the only one who's gone diving anywhere, and you know that's not true. Take a minute to add to the chart!

Israel invents underwater breathing system

An Israeli Inventor has developed a breathing apparatus that will allow breathing underwater without the assistance of compressed air tanks. This new invention will use the relatively small amounts of air that already exist in water to supply oxygen to both scuba divers and submarines.

OK. How cool is this?!!!
