Please join the North Shore Frogmen this Thursday, Sept. 19, at 8:00 for a presentation by Environmental Defense about Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. The presentation goes over what Stellwagen Bank is with some pictures and descriptions of the great habitat and wildlife there, as well as some discussion of the needed protections for this great area and what some of the tools to achieve this are.

Check this out. I nominate this guy for a Nobel Prize! Here is a simple stick on device that can help you get something as rare as a 20 lb lobster: a full fill. Meet Honest Phil! Be sure to check out the interactive demos on air compression and temperature. Its a great physics lesson in an easy to understand format. Now, all we need are more dive shops that will take the time to fill a tank properly - about half an hour to take a steel 120 from 500 to 3500 psi - or let you leave them overnight to cool!

New Vice-President Appointed: Our Vice-President, Dave Metrano, has recently accepted a position on the Manchester Police Department. He had been hoping to get back into public service for sometime, so he is really happy about the position. Unfortunately he will not be able to attend our meetings since the position is during the evenings, so I have appointed Michel Donovan to acting Vice-President for the remainder of the term. Dave will hopefully still be helping us with permits for our events and the Club picnic. He might also stop by some of our weekend events when he is not running his helix mooring business.
Best of luck to both of them.

New parking restrictions at Loblolly Cove and Pebble Beach: Half of Pebble Beach’s parking is now designated as Resident Only. The remaining half that is still open for Non-residents is the far right pebble section, the section with no sand until you get in the water. In a related change, the three parking places along the road to Loblolly Cove are now Resident Only. This means if you what to dive either dive site, you will need to park on the far side of Pebble Beach.
From what I have seen this change may eventually also happen to Old Garden beach, based on the number of divers and student divers I see there on the weekends. Many residents in the Rockport area are already pushing for the changes. It is our responsibility to respect both the places we dive and the residents around these sites. We indeed need to be aware of our actions at all times at a dive site. Be responsive and respectful to the residents needs, it is true we have a right to use the water just as they do, but our right to park close to the dive site is a privilege not a right. In many ways it is the little things that count, keep noise levels down when doing night dives, leave nothing behind (take your trash with you), don’t invade on residents property unless necessary, don’t leave gear on the grass at dive sites, and follow any posted rules or requests by the local community.
