We call it a mask, but that's OK, Matt...

Look's like Fool's Gold might be some nice winter entertainment for divers needing their vicarious nitrogen fix. Matthew McConaughey & Kate Hudson, together again for the first time since How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, are deep sea treasure hunters in an underwater romantic comedy. He's the hunter. She's the woman who left him because he went diving too much.

Although McConaughey says he earned his AOW prior to filming because there are so many underwater scenes, it seems he's still a little iffy on the terminology:
When you're in the middle of it without goggles on and can't see because there are bubbles and sand kicking up all around you -- and you don't know whether you're upside down..."
I wonder if he did any dives without his oxygen tank or his flippers?

Don't mean to be so snarky. But, it's fun.

Although set in the Caribbean, they shot the film in Australia (go figure...) and ran into the dreaded Irukandji jellyfish. No laughing matter there:
It's the size of your pinky nail and they're translucent," McConaughey said. "If they sting you, it will attack your central nervous system and put you in the hospital. The pain is so bad, they say, that they'll put you on a morphine drip for 72 hours. There are even stories of people dying from the pain. Now that would suck.

The film opens Friday. Read more at thebostonchannel.com. Then again, most critics, including the MSNBC film critic hated it.
In a year or so, when "Fool's Gold" winds up on cable where it belongs, watching these photogenic ninnies frolic in the clear blue Caribbean waters might be just the tonic on a miserably cold day when you're under a blanket, running a fever and subsisting on mugs of bouillon. But don't bother digging for it in the meantime.
You decide.
